Politics and young people

There’s a lot of shit going on in the Malaysian political scene now. Some old timers are scared of change, others want things to change, and then there is young people.
Some people are of the opinion that young people especially those who cant event vote yet, like myself, shouldn’t be concerned about politics.

Hell I even grew distant with a very close friend because we couldn’t find any common ground on interest, because I liked politics and theology and as many friends would know, am not very mainstream (I don’t and refuse to have a friendster, myspace or facebook account and dont listen to the radio among other things). This same friend was also confused on why I am interested in politics in the first place.

Now I wouldn’t say I’m an intellectual or am very wise or whatever. But age doesn’t mean I wont get irked or pissed off about things that I know are wrong but people tell me that I know nothing of it. Hell I argue with my mother, and I sure as hell am not scared to ‘debate’ my views with religious scholars. I might give up arguing when all I get is nay saying without any proper points to back up such things, but of course the only that does is make me an extremely vindictive person waiting for the chance to say “HAH! TOLD YOU SO!”

Anyway am straying off course. So is it really true that as a young person I should not be concerned with such things? All I’m supposed to do is enjoy life and blabla?

Well fuck that.

Politics is important the moment you start being independent. I still live off my parents, but I manage my own money and blow it off or save it on my own accord. I also have to concern myself with what the hell I’m going to do once I graduate which is a year or more from now.

Inflation doesn’t just affect people who work. I’m affected too, the stuff I buy is affected by inflation, I still get the same allowance but I have to pay more no?

I take public transport so petrol prices shouldnt bother me? What? Buses run on solar power or hydrogen?

Basicly the point of this rambling is that, politics is important to young people. Why? Because whatever the hell happens now can fuck you now or fuck up your future. I dont want to enter a fucked up future where I have to suffer the effects of what happens now or clean up the fucking dirty work. I want things to improve now so I dont have to do shit to get things back on track, and all I have to focus on is make things better. I’m not going to leave the fucking country and never come back because other places are better (ok, I might leave for 3-5 years to work and get experience, but only because I want to bring my experience back here). This is my bloody homeland, this is where I want to prove myself, this is where I want to grow old and die, and when I can, I am not going to take a backseat and just watch as people fuck up my land, my future.
