From Sungai Ampang to Singapore Part 1

So I just got back from Singapore yesterday morning as part of tiring but fun (mostly) 5 day adventure away from home.

On Saturday morning, after some planning with Siddiq earlier in the week we set off to Sungai Ampang a.k.a Kemensah Falls with 4 other friends, Joe, Asyraf a.k.a England, Helmi and his friend Botak (real name not remembered). Original plans included Jo (couldn’t come because of class) and Syami (Didnt wake up, arse)

We were supposed to meet up at 8 and leave Cheras not long after, but Joe fell asleep and only woke up around 8.40 -___-” By the time he reached and we settled some other stuff it was almost 10 and we left.

Sungai Ampang is located not far from Zoo Negara and to go there you had to go through Kampung Kemensah.

Anyway when we reached the top there was a huge surprise, apparently the bastards had decided that you have to call and do some other registrations before you could enter the place. So we called one of the guys and found out that instead of being free to enter, it now cost rm10/person just for a day trip and rm20/person to stay a night. We were all pretty bummed about it, especially because some of us were broke or reluctant to pay, but after Sid took a trip to the ATM some 15-20 minutes away by bike, we payed up and off we were.

It was a little different this time, we had a guide for one, and there was a lot of logging work being done at the moment. Normally when we came here we went to the lower falls, which is a 30 minute - 1 hour trek from where we parked the bikes. The original plan was to go the top level falls, which would be a 3 hour trek in total.

But because there were only six of us, and our ranger forgot his shotgun, and maybe because of my slight reluctance after the ranger told us it would be another 3 hours additional from the trek to the lower falls instead of just being 3 hours in total, we made camp at the lower falls.

After setting up camp we decided to go have fun in the river. Things really have changed. The path to the river from the camp site has changed alot, its more difficult, and the paths have split, and it is really really slippery, damned sludge.

The river was a bit deeper at some spots, especially our dive spot where some areas were deeper than I was tall (well, deeper than Sid is tall would be more dramatic and still true lol)

I also managed to keep my not so lucky streak going, I slipped off the rocks below the falls while holding a pot of cleaned rice, luckily didnt fall on my head and only gave myself some aches and cramps, also luckily we had a lot more rice.

While we were cooking our lunch and resting, our ranger sent some of the Orang Asli kids to fetch us and he gave us a tour sort of around some places.

After a while, again I slipped, this time I fell backwards, bumped my noggin and sent my glasses flying into the river. After a while trying to find my glasses without success, I decided to give up and walk off. I had a spare pair at home and I’m not blind without them, so I was ok with it. Went to the top of the lower falls, it was cool and everything. On our way back however, I was met with some awesome luck. One of the Orang Asli kids had dived around the rocks around where I fell and actually found my bloody glasses, undamaged. These guys are awesome.

Night time was pretty uneventful, we spent alot of time trying to get a decent fire going, and alot of time just hanging out talking and blabla. Did sentry duty with Sid, Joe and Asyraf (the later two were supposed to go after us), when it rained shortly after we cooked some supper. No out of world events, though there were lots of falling stuff when we were outside doing sentry, apparently there were also voices, but I’m slightly hard of hearing so I didnt hear anything.

Next day we woke up an hour or more before noon, had some lunch in the tent, met with a group of people who included some nice chicks who went there trekking, had some more river activities, rested, and packed up and left for home around 2pm.

Got home around 4.30-5ish, unpacked, packed up again, cleaned up, rested, and then next thing I knew I was on my way to KL Sentral for the 2nd part of my adventure, Singapore
