From Sungai Ampang to Singapore Part 2
Around 8pm Sunday 4 or so hours after I got back from a camping trip in Sungai Ampang I picked up my stuff and left for KL Sentral. At first my dad sent me to the KL Railway station despite me telling him otherwise. I guess he still didnt understand that KL Sentral had taken over as the railway hub and wouldnt budge until I showed him a bloody sms stating the time and place -___-”"
Anyway, met up with my cousin at KL Sentral, and we soon got on our train around 9ish. We didnt manage to get beds so we had to settle down for seats. The trip from KL to Singapore would take around 8-9 hours. It was a pretty uneventful ride, except for some drama when an old man got pissed that he didnt get the seat that his ticket wrote (KTM had fucked up and booked the seat twice) and something about the door not automatically closing. Most of the ride was spent trying to sleep and smoking our brains out at the.. damn dont know the word, that part of the train in between passenger cars. (Also, to old (or new) friends that dont know I smoke. SURPRISE!)

We reached customs around 7ish in the morn, and finally reached Tanjong Pagar around 8. There we met up with my cousin’s sister, who is staying and working in Singapore, and off we were.
We (me and my cousin, the other cousin stayed at her place) stayed at Costa Sands Resort or something at Downtown East, Pasir Ris. It’s a “chalet” but in actuality its more like a motel, a very decent motel with awesome TV and other facilities, but with a motel layout nonetheless.
Anyway before we went to the “chalet” we went around town first. First up was City Hall. Bought the Damn Dirty Apes album Ape Kill Ape. Yes, I went to Singapore to buy a Malaysian band’s album. Not my bloody fault Tower Records and many other shops ran out of stock. Bastards. Anyway, found out later when we got back to the “chalet” that the bastard at the counter had left my cd out of the casing after I tested it. Bastards. Had to go back the next day to pick it up, but the dude wasnt there so I couldnt flip him off.
Went to Bugis Street on the first night. Its more or less like Petaling Street, but with no haggling and somewhat better t-shirts.
Second day was spent at Orchard Road most of it before we met up with some of my cousin’s friends and went walking around town. Went to see the Merlion which was under maintenance, thus surrounded by scaffolding and stuff. The Fullerton and the park/river near it is very beautiful at night. We had dinner at some huge food court inside a very nice building, cant remember the name.
Now, you’re probably wondering why there are no pics, or maybe not but pics would probably make this less boring. Anyway, I had decided not to take pics in Singapore, and as it later turns out, camera wasn’t even in my bag lol. (Later turns out when I got home that it’s either lost in my room or lost under the bed in the “chalet”, but the camera was on last legs anyway, time to store cash for a new one :D )
But all’s not lost, here’s a photo of me at Vivo City on our last day.

Spent most of our last day here after we left the “chalet”. Mostly hung out at starbucks or Pageone bookstore where spent alot of time reading lol.
We met up with my other cousin at Tanjong Pagar and went to the KTM station where we had dinner. Left Singapore at 9pm-ish, this time we got beds, which were comfortable, the way the train rocks now and then isnt bad for helping people sleep either. We reached KL Sentral around 6.40 am Thursday and went to get some breakfast before saying our goodbyes.
Well thats the boring part, now for some observations about my trip.
KTM
- KTM toilets are weird, guys get a friggin squat toilet, and and as I found out later ladies had a proper sit toilet. Now nothing wrong with a squat toilet, but doing your business on a squat toilet, holding on to a fucking a handle bar infront of you, is not the best experience on earth albeit extremely amusing when I think about it later.
Singapore
- MRT is i dunno, two times, three times longer than LRT? Its also wider, and no matter how full it is, you always have some proper standing room and you never get squished like in LRT’s. Switching between lines is also so much more efficient. Ticket Purchasing through machines is quite annoying though,
- Singapore’s prepaid plans are made of awesome. One plan by Starhub is you paying 28 dollars and you get over a 100 dollars in credit! BASTARDS
- One of the first things I noticed in Singapore is how bloody quiet it is even in town during weekdays. It’s quiet enough that I as a KL-ite(?) find it disturbingly peaceful. I mean, some places are noisy, like Bugis Street and Vivo City, but its soooo bloody peaceful.
- Its harder to smoke at outside cafes since smoking places are segregated, but hey, at least non smokers cant complain about where we smoke :)
- In short, it is so much better than here, and if I werent going to work in the media business I would totally move there despite crazy rent cost. Stupid authoritarian government grrrr
Now for the amount of money I spent in Singapore (on things worth noting that is)
1. Damn Dirty Apes Album

16.95 SGD
2. Quiksilver Flip Flops

Almost same design, but not quite
11 SGD (50% Discount :D )
3. Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle-Earth T-shirt (un-original ): )

4. Funniest and Gutsiest T-shirt I have ever bought (and worn)

5. SingTel Prepaid Card

6. Assorted Gifts and Souveniors
