Turkey: High Court Reverses Parliament, Bans Head Scarves At Schools

That was the headline that I saw while I was browsing Malaysia Today. Now let me post some quotes from the article

“The Constitutional Court said the amendments that would have allowed head scarves at Turkish universities were contrary to the country’s modern principles of secularism.”

“Erdogan’s AK party is viewed with suspicion by the opposition, which accuses it of “antisecular activities.” They argue that allowing some women to wear head scarves would put pressure on others to wear Muslim garb.”

Now, I’m a Muslim albeit very liberal and open minded and as of right now not very pious. I also do not believe the hijab/headscarf/tudung is necessary. And I really dont care whether people are secular, pious, or moderate or whatever, that’s their bloody business and as long as they dont force their views on me, in which case they are giving me a green light for my extremely vindictive and arrogant righteous views to be ’shared’, I really dont mind them. But this recent decision by the Turkish High Court is not a decision about secularism or not, it is a decision that is about oppression.

Turkey you suck, I am ashamed to be possibly related to you, hell, maybe that branch of my ancestors who were possibly from Turkey/Ottoman Empire would be embarrassed of you too. Your laws and your constitution are as oppressive as can be as in borderline on violating rights of freedom to practice religion which is against any Human Rights laws. Hell your laws can even shut down an entire leading political party to be shut down for antisecular behaviour.

Wearing the headscarf is a personal choice you dimwits. And the only place where women are pressured to wear a headscarf are countries where it is compulsory to wear a headscarf or else you might get punished or places where the majority wear it, and the majority are righteous pricks.

So fuck you Turkey and your fucking oppressive laws.

Boycotting the Dutch is stupid

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

Recently a bloody Dutchman decided to release an anti-Islam movie. While I personally wish to see him get into a horrible accident that will not kill him but leave him horribly impaired and make his life a living hell of pain and misery, I don’t hate all the bloody Dutchmen.

So he’s Dutch and he has a thing against Muslims. Muslims whine and bitch about how we’re being stereotyped as terrorist and that our religion is a religion of violence. By condemning all the Dutch aren’t we doing the same? Condemn individuals you fools, not the whole fucking country. What the hell is wrong with you people?

So Indonesia and Iran has religious zealots that are likely to be extremist terrorists. Are Indonesia and Iran terrorist countries? Yeah so the fucking American government says that Iran is a terrorist country. And when they do that you Muslims get all pissy about it. Well screw the Bush administration, my American friends who aren’t crazy rednecks would be insulted if I said all Americans are racist prejudiced bastards.

Muslims preach peace and they say we should not condemn and judge all Muslims or Islam because of the acts of a few crazy idiots who justify their acts of violence through their interpretation of Islam. So why are we judging the entire Dutch country?

And you know what the funny thing is, the Dutch government is opposed to Wilders’s movie.

“Prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende:

‘On behalf of the Dutch government, I would like to respond to the online film by Mr Wilders.

The film shows images of violent acts and holds Islam and the Koran responsible for them. The government condemns such acts and those who commit them.

The film equates Islam with violence. We reject this interpretation. The vast majority of Muslims reject extremism and violence. In fact, the victims are often also Muslims.

We therefore regret that Mr Wilders has released this film. We believe it serves no purpose other than to cause offence. But feeling offended must never be used as an excuse for aggression and threats. The government is heartened by the initial restrained reactions of Dutch Muslim organisations.”

By boycotting the entire Dutch nation we are sending the wrong message and it might make the Dutch even more prejudiced. The proper course of action would be to support the Dutch government in it’s rejection of Wilders’s film. Hell we should support the Dutch government and then push them to punish the bastard. That would be civilised.

Butterfingers challanges Malaysian music industry

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

Butterfingers, one of Malaysia’s renown rock bands, have announced that their new album, Kembali, will be released in July 2008.
Kembali will be the sequel to the band’s previous album Selamat Tinggal Dunia, and will be their 2nd Bahasa Malaysia album.

The big news however is that the album will be sold and distributed via the internet, without any major labels or outside help, just the band and their crew at RoyalButterfingers.

This is something probably unheard of in the Malaysian music scene, though I could be wrong. Let’s hope this will make the way for more changes and innovations in the local Music industry.

Guys.

We’re planning on releasing Kembali in Jul 08 ourselves. No major label. No distributor. No middleman. No assholes. Just “US”. The band. We’re back. Finally. And more alive than ever. Yes. We’re able to get music to you, the ppl who deserve it, for less money. Who needs miserable retailers when you have the power of the internet.

That said. We’ll be distributing it ourselves via the internet. And we’re planning on selling the album at RM 15 a piece (excluding transport cost). How bout that!

When we’ve set up the online store, you can buy it there. We’ll let you know. The details. Soon to come.

What say you, RBF’ers?

Meantime, any queries or thoughts or concerns into “Kembali”, address them to emmett_here[at]yahoo.com.

Hell. If you’ve got the time, I’ve got the time.” - Emmet via RoyalButterfingers
